MARIA (MARIE) LEONIE RIVOALEN (nee GERARDY) Marie passed away peacefully at the Taché Nursing Centre on August 30, 2009, at the age of 87 years. Remaining to cherish Marie's memory forever are: her husband of 55 years, Henri; her son Carl (Wendy Mudry); her daughter Marianne (William Emslie); her sisters and brothers Thérèse, Jean, Robert, Adèle, Fernand, Jules, Gabrielle, Angeline, Cécile, Bernadette and Denis; as well as many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Julien and Célestine Gérardy, her brother Marcel and sister Annette. Marie was born in St. Labre on July 15, 1922. She worked on her parents' farm and assisted them to a greater degree by looking after her younger siblings. After leaving her parents' farm, Marie worked at the St. Boniface General Hospital for five years. During this time she met her beloved Henri. They were married in Montreal on May 1, 1954. Marie and Henri settled in Flin Flon in 1957 and resided there until 1969. Then they purchased a farm and moved to St. Labre, where they lived until 1998. That year they sold their farm and retired to Winnipeg. In 2002, Marie became a resident of the Taché Nursing Centre, where she spent her final years. Marie worked tirelessly and selflessly throughout her life, especially on her farms. She always did her best. She always gave her all. She was generous of spirit and unfailingly kind. She was admired for her love of children, her vegetable garden, her flower gardens and her ability to commune with nature. She was an excellent hostess and cook, having welcomed numerous family members and friends at her table over many years. She touched the hearts of many. Everyone loved her. The family would like especially to thank the dedicated Taché Nursing Centre staff for their exceptional support and care. The kind, gentle attention afforded to Marie will never be forgotten. Marie's funeral will take place at the St. Boniface Cathedral at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2009. There will be a second mass, by way of a memorial service, in St. Labre at 11:00 a.m. on September 19, 2009. After mass Marie's remains will be interred in the St. Labre Cemetery, and thereafter there will be a gathering of friends and family at the hall in Woodridge.
