BEVERLEY BAKUN March 22, 1940 - August 29, 2009 Surrounded by the comfort and love of her family, Beverley, our beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on August 29, 2009 at age 69 after a valiant battle with peritoneal cancer. Bev became ill in April 2006 and fought her battle with dignity and courage. She maintained a positive outlook, always hoping for a cure and that she would have that miracle. She was admired for her strength and perseverance through the many challenges of her illness. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Morris, of 52 years; son Bruce of Ottawa; daughter Tracy (Vince) of Winnipeg and son Jeff (Janet) of Calgary; grandchildren Lauren (Winnipeg), Jayce, Jenna, Jade (Calgary). She was predeceased by her parents John and Tillie Stratichuk and brother Ken Stratichuk. Bev was born and raised in Winnipeg and after getting married dedicated her time to raising her family. In later years, her career directed her to a position of financial adjudicator with Manitoba Housing until her retirement at age 50. She felt very blessed to have had a long and fulfilling retirement and enjoyed many memorable times with family and friends in her travels and her time spent in Winnipeg, Falcon Lake, Cochrane, Calgary, Bonita Springs, FL and Phoenix, AZ. Bev was known for her warmth, class and style, which was reflected not only in her personality and appearance but also in her homes she loved to decorate. She was always very physically active during her life. Two of her passions were tennis, where she won a number of mixed double tournaments and golf, defying the odds and getting a hole in one, twice! One of her cherished memories was being well enough in 2007 to celebrate her 50th wedding anniversary with Morris and all her family, where they all gathered at a small resort on a private lake in the Laurentians in Quebec for a week of celebration. On behalf of Bev, our family extends our heartfelt appreciation to the CancerCare teams both in Calgary (Dr. Scott Dowden) and Winnipeg. Special thanks to all the doctors, nurses, aides and staff on the Palliative Care Ward (8A) and Ward (3B) for their tender care of our Mom, for always treating her with dignity, respect and compassion - you embraced not only our Mom, but also our entire family. Many thanks to Patti Findlay who accompanied Mom on her journey and offered support to the family as well. Lastly, thank you to all our friends and co-workers for your caring and support during her illness. In keeping with Bev's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family is grateful to those who wish to make a donation in Beverley's memory to the St. Boniface Hospital and Research Foundation - Palliative Care Endowment Fund; online: www.saintboniface.ca or by mail to 409 Tache Avenue, Room D1003, Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A6. Even though it's been a year since I've seen Bev, I have many fond memories of times spent with the whole family, being good friends with Bruce all thru High School and beyond there were many fun times and good visits. Bev was always a fabulous hostess. A wonderful woman who will be sadly missed by all. My condolences to all of you. Sharon Ryman - Posted by: sharon ryman (Friend) on: Sep 12, 2009
