Date of Passing: Aug 30, 2009
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBARNET (BARNEY) KOHM 1924 - 2009 On Sunday, August 30, 2009 our beloved father, friend and husband passed away at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 85 years. Barney will be lovingly remembered by his wife, of 41 years of marriage, Margaret; his three children Angus (Stefanie), Steven (Sandy), and Hannah Tamara (Carson Cardinal); and his granddaughters Sharra Kohm and Misty Cardinal. Born in Estevan, SK, Barney came to Winnipeg at age 12. At age 18, he joined the Air Force, serving at Canadian bases during the Second World War. He then took a Bachelor of Science in Geology at the University of Manitoba which he followed by working in the Alberta oil fields. He then took his Masters in Social Work at the University of Manitoba and worked in various parts of Canada, ending with Home Care in Winnipeg. Barney was a wise, life-long investor who continued to trade on the stock market throughout his retirement. Even in his last days, Barney could be counted on for his wise logic, sense of humour, and entertaining stories. We will miss him! At Barney's request there will be no formal service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation, 730 Taylor Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3M 2K8 (Barney would remind us all to save the tax receipt).
