ROLAND HAYWARD On September 4, 2009, our husband, father and grandfather died peacefully at the age of 86. He is lovingly remembered by his wife and partner of 63 years; Ethel M. Hayward (nee: Spence); his sons, Douglas and Rowland; daughter-in-law Marilyn; and eight grand-children, Sean, Adam, Catherine, Rowland, Julie, Christopher, Jason and Jennifer. A member of the RCAF during the Second World War, he taught flying. After the war he returned to the Manitoba Telephone System where he worked, initially on a bicycle, on many projects until his retirement all of 43 years later. He liked the MTS crowd and valued doing the job right for his customers. Grandchildren were easy for him. He loved to show them that they could tend to business and canoe, boat, start fires and make French Toast. He was proud of each and every one of them. He loved to travel, curl, bowl and enjoyed fixing the car, roofing and plumbing. He taught us by observing what he did rather than telling us what to do. A private service will take place.
