HERB ROBERTS 1922 - 2009 Herbert Lindsay Roberts passed away on September 2, 2009. Born in Winnipeg, he and his four brothers grew up canoeing on the Red River where he met the Jewel of his life. Like many prairie boys, he joined the navy for the war years. Having developed what would be a life-long love of the sea, he moved a young family to Victoria in 1955. Herb was a jeweller, a carver, an artist, a sailor, a curler, a teacher, a mentor, an environmentalist and an inspiration. He was an honorary lifetime member of the SNSYC. His warmth, curiosity and passion for life was contagious and evident every day of his life. He was the first up and the last to leave the dance floor. Herb was predeceased by his parents, George and Laural, and brother Albert. Herb leaves Jewel (Tanner), wife of 63 years, daughter Laural and sons Greg (Margie), Marty (MaryLou), and Don (Marlen), ten grand-children, six great-grandchildren and brothers Eric, Don and Ken and their families. The Tanner clan's commitment to the spirit of family was a constant source of love. Herb's family, however, extended far beyond the genetic ties to include a countless host of people that held a close and special place in his heart. Once a friend of Herb's, always a friend. His many, many friends enriched his life and for which he was always thankful. Herb and family were fortunate to have the support and compassionate care of Peninsula Home and Community Care and the PRT... a special calling provided by amazing human beings. Words are not enough to express our gratitude. If you so desire, Herb would have been honoured by your support for the Victoria Hospice Society or a charity of choice. A celebration of Herb's life, will take place at the Salvation Army Victoria Citadel (BC), 4030 Douglas, at 2:00 p.m., September 23, 2009.
