JOHN HOWORTH John Howorth died peacefully at the Lions Manor Friday August 28, 2009 in his 98th year. Born John Howorth Steinthal in Winnipeg in 1911. His family took his father's mother's name of Howorth in 1915 because of strong anti-German sentiments during the First World War. John leaves behind two sons, William (Bill) and wife Carol in Vancouver and Edward (Ted) and wife Sarah Yates-Howorth in Winnipeg and two grandchildren Terry Howorth in Toronto and Gemma Brooks Yates-Howorth in Winnipeg. John's wife Margaret (née Armson) predeceased him in 2008. They met and married in Fort William, now Thunder Bay in 1938 and lived in Ottawa, Regina, Winnipeg and Toronto before returning to Winnipeg, which remained their spiritual home. John and Margaret loved camping and spent much of their retired lives exploring North America in their trailer. John valued business; he worked for the Boy Scouts of Canada, for Mutual Life and for the majority of his career life for Creditel Canada. An outgoing and curious man, he curled until his 90th year and remained curious about people and about Canadian history until his death. A celebration of his life will be held in late October for family and friends.
