Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM JOSEPH MACRAE August 4, 1917 - September 7, 2009 Peacefully on Monday, September 7, 2009, Bill passed away at Deer Lodge Centre with his daughter Norma by his side. He was predeceased by his wife, Edith in 1994; his parents, Dan and Annie, and his siblings, being the last survivor of six children. Loved and cherished by his stepchildren, Bill was Dad to Eleanor (John) Ansell, Lindsay (Maureen) Dodge and Norma Dodge. Grandpa Bill to Rob, Susan, Bill, Kevin and Dan; and great-grandpa Bill to 10 great-grandchildren. Bill served his country during the Second World War with the Royal Canadian Artillery, Lanark and Renfrew Scottish Regiment of Canada with service in the United Kingdom, Central Mediterranean area, Continental Europe (1940 to 1945). On return to Winnipeg from military duty, Bill acquired his journeyman plumber status, which eventually led to his career with the City of Winnipeg as a senior mechanical inspector, retiring in 1982. Respecting Bill's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service. To celebrate his life, a reception and casual gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, September 12 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Inc., 3030 Notre Dame Avenue, across from Brookside Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff of 4 East Ortho-Rehab at the Grace Hospital and the staff of Tower 5, Deer Lodge Centre for their care and kindness to our Dad.
