MILTON ALLAN CLEMIS Milton Allan Clemis was born on July 21, 1919. His parents were Fred and Violet Clemis from Somerset. He was one of six children, three brothers and two sisters, George, Alex, Minnie, Ralph and Violet. He attended school at Kingsley. After he finished school he farmed with his father and worked as a farm hand for the neighbours. In 1943, he bought a farm south of Glenboro. In 1953, he rented out his farm to his brother Ralph and Milton went to work in Winnipeg, for Olgivies (the flour mill) and later Elgin as a farm hand. While Milton lived in Winnipeg he enjoyed going to evening baseball games. One thing few people knew about Milton was that he loved to dance. He took lessons while he lived in Winnipeg and became so adept that he eventually became an instructor. From 1961 to 1967, Milton returned to farm his land. In 1967, he sold his farm and travelled extensively throughout 22 of the United States. He would work in Canada during the summer as a farm hand and in the winter he would pick up odd jobs as he travelled through the states. He had many interesting stories to tell about his travels. As he got older he spent his time working in Canada and bought a house trailer in Hartney. In 1995, he moved his house trailer to Souris and retired there. Milton loved his daily walk downtown to pick up his mail, groceries and do his banking. He made many day trips to Winnipeg and enjoyed seeing movies. After years of living on his own, Milton was a very good cook and baker. He always had a cake ready for company. Milton also knew how to sew and knit. In 2007, Milton began to have health problems that made it hard for him to live on his own and he moved into the Souris Personal Care Home. They said he was always ready with a smile and a laugh. Even after moving into the Souris Personal Care Home, Milton loved to follow the current news events pertaining to farming. He was always a farmer at heart. The staff there said he was one of their favourite residents and will be greatly missed. Milton Allan Clemis passed away on August 22, 2009, at the Souris Personal Care Home at the age of 90. Milton is survived by his sister Violet Hamilton; sisters-in-law, Pauline Clemis and Shirley Clemis, and numerous nieces and nephews. Milton was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Violet; brothers, George, Alex, Ralph; and sister Minnie Evans; brothers-in-law, Stewart Hamilton and George Evans; niece Heather Pilloud. Donations can be made to the Souris Personal Care Home - Sun Room Fund. Expressions of sympathy may be made at dkowalchuk@mts.net Kowalchuk's Funeral Home, Souris in care of arrangements.
