FREDA GRACE DISBROWE (nee MOWAT) It is with deep sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of Freda Grace Disbrowe (nee Mowat) of Selkirk, Manitoba at the age of 65 years, on Tuesday, September 8, 2009. Remaining to forever cherish Freda's memory is her beloved husband of 44 years, George; children, Pam (Jerry), George (Kerry ann), Cheryl, Chuck (Maizelle) and Ryan; grandchildren, Chelsea, Jeramy, Isabel and Lucas; brother Herbert Mowat; sister-in-law Nancy Mowat; mother-in-law Eva Disbrowe, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Freda was predeceased by her parents, Charlie and Mary Mowat; brothers, Charlie and Willard; and sister Violet. Freda was born in Norway House, MB on March 5, 1944 and she spent her early years at Warren's Landing, MB. She worked on the M.S. Kenora where she met the love of her life, George. They married in 1965 and lived at Warren's Landing until 1967 when they moved to Selkirk. Freda was a stay at home mom who had a great pride in raising her five children and loved planning birthday parties and family events. Once all the kids were grown she began working for the Lord Selkirk School Division as a cleaner until her retirement in 2003. Mom had a great love for camping and spent a lot of time in the Whiteshell and at Hecla Island. Mom also loved just spending time with her grandkids who very often were with her on these camping trips. She also enjoyed bowling and spent several years in a league. Knitting and crocheting were a pastime of hers that her kids will not forget with the items she made them over the years. Mom was a loving and caring person who loved everyone and treated everyone with the utmost respect and compassion. She was always someone who wore her heart on her sleeve and would do anything for anyone with no questions asked. The family would like to express their thanks to the doctors and nurses of the MICU at St. Boniface General Hospital for their compassionate care of our Mom. With respect to Freda's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Selkirk with Rev. Brad Elliott officiating. In lieu of flowers, donation's may be made in Freda's name to the Diabetes Association, 102-103 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6. My precious precious child I love you and would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints it was then that I carried you. - Footprints No more pain Mom only happy memories, may you always soar on the wings of the angels. We love you. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
