JOHN (JACK) STEPHENS With great sadness, the family of Jack Stephens announces his sudden passing on September 8, 2009 at 83 years of age. Jack was predeceased by his parents, John and Lillian and sister Thelma. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 56 years, Siv; daughters Kim (Don) Michalski and Teri Stephens; grandchildren Patrick and Katelyn McDowall and Melissa and Kyla Michalski; sister-in-law Kris Norvack. Jack was born in Winnipeg in 1926. He graduated from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate and furthered his education by taking drafting courses. In 1953, Jack married his high school sweetheart, Siv (Anderson), followed by the birth of their daughters Kim and Teri. Dad and Mom enjoyed a long, loving life together, with many laughs and good times. After various jobs, Jack decided to start his own business, Airmaster Sales. After 14 successful years, he retired at age 50. Dad and Mom spent 33 years at their winter home in Boynton Beach, Florida and summers at Grand Beach. Jack's competitive spirit was well known. He played football in Mexico City and was a proud alumni of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (1945). An all-star basketball player, he played for Paulin's in the 1950's. He enjoyed sand volleyball at Grand Beach and was a long time member of Elmhurst Golf Club. At age 50, he took up the sport of tennis. He continued to play until his passing. He will be missed by his fellow players at the Kildonan Tennis Club, Grand Beach courts and Boynton Tennis Club. Jack was a thoughtful, gracious, humorous, loving husband, dad, grandfather and friend. His perspective on life and money will be missed by all. The family wishes to thank the Selkirk EMS, Grand Beach Parks and Beach Patrol and his tennis friends who assisted on Monday morning. Your efforts were much appreciated. Following Jack's wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jack's memory to the charity of your choice.
