STELLA COOK (nee SAYAK) 1920 - 2009 It is with sadness we announce that Stella died on Wednesday, September 9, 2009. Remaining to cherish her memory are her daughters, Betty-Jane Arnason of Winnipeg and Dorothy and her husband Leonard Martin of Gimli. Stella was a loving and generous grandma to David (Corinne), Brad, and Blake (Kristin) Pierce and Lynn (Don Horton), Tracy (Tim Kramble), Shannon, Allan (Leah Young) and Earl (Cha Jivanuwong) Martin. She was a great-grandma to Samantha, Megan, Ethan and Claire Pierce, Mikaela Kramble, Kristjana (Keith Reinert) and Ayla Horton and great great-grandma to Kadence Reinert. Stella is also survived by her sister, Mae Grabosky of Lakewood, CA; brother Jack Sayak of Portage la Prairie, MB; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Henry in 2004; parents Peter and Dora Sayak; sisters Anne Tabachek, Kay Prokopchuk, Tena Paynter, Helen Riske and brothers, John, Mike, Stan, Bill and Slawko. Stella was born near Fraserwood, MB on February 7, 1920. She married Henry in 1938 and lived in the Gimli area most of her life except for 15 years spent in Moose Jaw, SK. She worked as a cook/baker at the air base in Gimli until 1971 and then transferred to the base at Moose Jaw. In 1984, after 33 years with the Public Service, Stella and Henry retired at Gimli. Stella was an independent, hard working person. She enjoyed her last years at the Rotary Towers where she met many kind and friendly people. She looked forward to her weekly bingo nights at Fraserwood with her dear friend Victoria Kaminski. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 14, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Gimli with Mona Johnson officiating. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements.
