ELEANOR MARGARET LAMM (McEWEN) November 13, 1925 - September 9, 2009 With our love and deepest sorrow we announce the peaceful passing of our mum and gramma, Eleanor, with her family at her side. Eleanor will be lovingly remembered by her children Donna (Gary), Ron (Cathy), Murray (Gail), Bob (Brenda), Shirley, Barry (Tricia), Craig (Gail); her 22 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Also mourning her loss is brother Lawrence McEwen, nieces, nephews, many special friends and extended family. She was predeceased by her infant daughter Evelyn Lorraine, husband Ed, parents John and Margaret McEwen, brother Ed, sisters Bea Bowie and Tillie Williamson. Mum grew up on the McEwen family farm and attended school in Balmoral. She married her sweetheart Ed in 1945 and moved to Stonewall where they raised their seven children. In 1976 Dad passed away and Mum continued being a homemaker while working at the Stonewall Hospital until she retired in 1991. One of her favourite pastimes was knitting and over the years she made sure we all had mitts, slippers and afghans to keep us warm. Mum was an avid sports fan and could quite boisterously be heard over the crowd hollering at a ref or umpire, all the while cheering especially if her kids or grandkids were playing on the team. For many years she rarely missed a Flyer's hockey game and she was one of the lucky fans to have a reserved seat for every home game. Mum's friends meant the world to her and she loved spending time with them all. She rarely missed a day catching up on the morning gossip with the coffee crew, celebrating birthdays, going to card parties, out to eat, old-time dances or to the legion for bingo, you name it and she was ready and raring to go. Mum enjoyed travelling with her friends and family and has been across Canada, several hot spots and for many years attended curling events all over the world. Above all her greatest passion and joy in life was just being at home spending time with her children and their families. She loved being invited for a meal or just to hang out and visit, babysit, or to go on a camping or day trip. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and the sparkle in her eye and until the very end when they entered the room she absolutely lit up! This past July Mum was able to enjoy one more Lamm family get-together with all seven of her children and their families. Even being ill could not deter her quick wit and smile which made memories for a day that we will always cherish. Our Mum and Gramma was the best, she was a strong, independent woman of genuine character, she was tender at heart, her family was the centre of her being, she was and always will be the pillar of our family and we will forever cherish her memory and miss her dearly. Mum's favourite song was One Day at a Time and that was truly the motto in life by which she lived. With our sincere gratitude we would like to thank Dr. Kerr Graham, Stonewall Palliative Care and Hospital for your kindness and compassionate care during Mum's illness. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Stonewall Palliative Care, CancerCare Manitoba, or a charity of choice. In respect of mum's wishes a private family interment will be held. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
