Audrey was predeceased by her loving husband Albert (Ab), parents Walter and Florence Matthews, sister Mary (Mollie) and brother Frank. Remembered with love and respect, she will be sadly missed by her nieces and nephews, Don Garvie (Jane), Ted Foreman (Lynne), Sid Garvie (Cathy), Doreen VanBeneen (Don), Arlene Turnbull (Jim), Stuart MacPherson (Shelley) and David MacPherson (Bonnie). She will also be lovingly remembered by special friend Millie Russell. Audrey was born in Qu'Appelle, SK on June 27, 1919, moving to Winnipeg with her parents when she was an infant. She grew up in St. James and, upon completing her education, she trained as a Switchboard Operator, working with Searle Grain and Imperial Oil Ltd. She met Ab when they were both part of a group that entertained the troops during the Second World War. They were married on September 25, 1948 at St. James Anglican Church. Their union was to last 54 years, during which time they were devoted to each other and Audrey was a constant source of loving care and support for Ab. Audrey accompanied Ab on several trips to the Big Sing through Ab's association with the Winnipeg Male Chorus. They both loved to travel and highlights of their lives were the many cruises they enjoyed together. Audrey's faith was very important to her, nurtured by her membership in the Anglican Church, initially with St. James Anglican Church and laterally with Holy Trinity Anglican Church where she was a member of the Chancel Guild for many years. Special thanks to the staff of Oakview Place and Sturgeon Creek 1 Retirement Residence for their care and support in recent years. A Memorial Service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., on Thursday, September 17, 2009 at 12:30 p.m. with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire memorial donations may be made to the Victoria General Hospital Foundation, 2340 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg, MB, R3T 929 or to a charity of one's choice.
