CAPT. RICHARD JOHN GOODMAN (J.R.) (RICARD JON) June 18, 1921 - September 12, 2009 Dad died peacefully at Selkirk General Hospital on Saturday morning. He was predeceased by parents Vilhjalmur Goodman, father and Johanna Elisabet Goodman-Freeman, mother as well as close uncle Gunnar Johnson; brothers Magnus, Thorhallor (Thor), Kjartan (Eleanor), Lawrence (Gladys), Sigurdur (Siggi) (Lillian); sister Laufey (Richard) and nephew Marvin. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Audrey (Amundson); children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Arnold (daughters Victoria and Charity mother Shirley Ann); Wynford (Karen) Wynford's children Jean (Chris), Jacob, Kimberly and Sarah, Curtis (Samantha), Tia and Brooke, David (Stacey), Aidan, Timothy (Nicole), Blake; Alexa and Bruce Okrainec; Janie and Dan Hygaard daughter Aynsley; Gunnar and Pansy children Jade, Jasmine, Thor, Magna; Joy and Bryan Wozney children Joshua and Danielle; Paul daughter Caley; brother-in-law Dr. Clifford Amundson and family; sisters-in-law, Heather Lockhart and family and Hazel Amundson and family. J.R. worked in various parts of Canada including Lake Athabasca, AB, McKenzie River District, NWT, and Fort Providence, NWT. Most of his work years were spent at the Selkirk Dock as a shipper manager for Booth and Fresh Water Fisheries. He also worked on the boats of Lake Winnipeg: The Buck, The Lady Canadian, The Northland and the MS Lord Selkirk. In later years, he worked for the Canadian Coast Guard. He also took great pride in his carpentry skills building six houses in Selkirk. John loved Gull Harbour, where he met the love of his life, Audrey. He spent countless hours in the bush chopping wood; picking berries and building the family cottage not to mention lifting fish nets for Audrey. In his retirement years he enjoyed many hours with his grandchildren. As well, Dad took daily walks uptown for coffee and endless visits with family and friends, till his knees started to go and out came Joy's old bike. Those daily rides were so very important to him. Dad also enjoyed keeping up on daily and current events through his love of the newspaper, magazines, books and the National and Local News. Connections with the Church family were an important part of Dads life too. Dad was a natural on the piano he loved music. Dad enjoyed the special visits with friends and family from afar; cousin Ella Coops, nieces Gail and Valerie, nephew Wayne and great nephew Troy and very close family friends Grant and Stewart Swanson. John will be missed by many. Special thanks to the staff of Red River Place and Selkirk General Hospital, as well as Drs. Lindenschmidt, Ryckman, Wong, Maharaj and Gupta. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 16th at 11:00 a.m. in the Knox Presbyterian Church, 341 Eveline Street, Selkirk, with Rev. Anton Bouw officiating. Pallbearers will be Curtis, David, Timothy Goodman, Chris Giles, Bryan and Joshua Wozney. Donations in John's memory can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, CancerCare Manitoba or Knox Presbyterian Church Selkirk. Rest in peace Dad, You will be missed by all! We Love You!
