RAYMOND ALDO BINDA January 5, 1930 September 10, 2009 After a long life filled with love and laughter, surrounded by the comfort of his family, our beloved Raymond passed away peacefully on September 10, 2009 at St. Boniface Hospital. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 58 years Shirley, his children Brenda-Lee and Assunta; Wayne and Roslyn and their children Dagan, Kalyn (Eric) and Logan (Jen); Darrell and Lydia and their children Teri-Dawn (Scott) and great-grandchildren Samuel, Solaya, Lyon and Eden, Lindsie (Alan) and great-grandson Brady, Matthew (Christina), Jessica (Jaret) and great-grandchildren Lily and Lawson; Vicki-Rae and Doug and daughter Quynn (Jeff); and granddaughter Raelene. He is also survived by brothers Johnny (Phyllis) and Angelo (Marlene); cousins and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his son Raymond Jr., his parents Ida and Mario, his brother Paul and sister Irene. Raymond was born in Kenora and spent his early years in many isolated spots along the C.P.R. line in Ontario before moving to Birds Hill at the age of thirteen. He attended Birds Hill School, and started up his own trucking business when he was seventeen. In 1951 he married the love of his life, Shirley, and they raised their five children in Birds Hill. After twenty-two years of trucking, he went to work for the City of Winnipeg as a streets foreman and retired after twenty-five years. Throughout the years, he made many friends - each one very special to him. He loved to play cards and crib and visit with friends over coffee. He spent lots of quality time with his family helping to mold his grandchildren. He took great pride in the beauty of his yard and was a terrific salesman and bargain hunter. He enjoyed telling colourful stories especially about the good ole' days, and was extremely proud of his Italian heritage. The family would like to thank Dr. B. Komenda, Dr. J. Gengerich, and Cheryl of CancerCare Manitoba, as well as, the ward staff at the Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital for their compassion and understanding. The family is also very grateful to all for their many visits, phone calls and generosity throughout Raymond's illness. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 19 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Parish, 341 Munroe Ave. A private family interment will follow. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations in Raymond's memory may be made to the Children's Wish Foundation or a charity of one's choice. Always remembered, always cherished. Each memory a part of us, A part of you, Never to be lost.

  • Dear Mrs. Binda & My Entire Childhood Playmate’s -- Growing up I felt the Binda’s were my 2nd family. Mr. Binda always greeted me with a warm heart & of course a few rules:) - I will always remember his joyful laugh & that twinkle in those eyes. Most of all the Pride he had for his family. As the days & weeks pass, & as you return to life’s routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love & support of family & friends. My thoughts & prays are with you.
