JOHN FREDERICK FRANCIS John Frederick Fred Francis passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at the Collingwood General Marine Hospital in his 88th year. Beloved husband of the late Dolly (nee Myers). Lovingly remembered by his children John, Ron and David Francis and Peggy Sturch. Fred, the son of the late Sam and Violet (nee Hooper) was born in Ottawa on December 29, 1921. Fred attended Balmy Public School in the Beaches. A top honor student at Danforth Technical School and graduated as Top Engineer Student at the University of Toronto in 1945. Fred was the Chairman of Metals Alloy Company. A long term member of the Y.P.O. (Young Presidents Organization), YMCA Director-Chairman of the Camp and Life Member of the Royal Ontario Museum. Fred and his beloved Dolly retired and resided at Osler Bluff and were longtime members of the Osler Bluff Ski Club. Fred and Dolly shared a passion for travel which included numerous cruises, trips to Europe and Asia. The Francis Family spent their summers at their home in the Muskoka's, where Fred, an avid sailor, founded the South Muskoka Sailing School and Co-founded the South Muskoka Sailing Club. Fred will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all those who knew and loved him. A Celebration of Fred's life will be held Friday, September 18, 2009 at his home, 795501 Osler Bluff Road, Collingwood from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the evening. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made payable to the General Marine Hospital Foundation of Collingwood or the South Muskoka Sailing School in Fred's memory.
