NELSON CONTRERAS It is with deep sadness and sorrow, the family announces the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and cousin Nelson Contreras. After a short courageous battle with cancer, Nelson succumbed on September 12, 2009, at the age of 61, and with his loving family by his side; the Good Lord welcomed him. Nelson was born on July 1, 1948 in Tondo, Manila, Philippines, the second of six children to Antonio Sr. and Librada. He met and married Rose Cadangan in the Philippines in 1986 and moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba shortly thereafter. He is survived by his wife Rose and daughter Rosienell (Ryan), granddaughters Felicity and Yazmien and mother-in-law Mering Cadangan. His brothers Antonio Jr. (Bibian), Reynato (Tala), Joselito (in loving memory Lita) and sisters Rowena (Cesar) and Angie (Vic). As well as numerous brother and sisters-in-law (Cadangan Family), cousins, nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews and friends. After arriving from the Philippines, Nelson worked for Princess Auto on Panet Road, for his entire career. He was a very dedicated hard worker, punctual and an easy person to get along with. Nelson was a loving and caring person who loved everyone and treated everyone with the utmost respect and compassion. He was always someone who would do anything for anyone with no questions asked. A generous individual who always gave his time and helping hand to anybody who needed his help. Nelson had a deep passion and vast knowledge of car mechanics and auto body works. With his expertise on cars he was always asked for his assistance for fixing a friend's or relatives automobiles. His other passions were that he had a creative talent for sculpting objects out of metal and wood. He loved drawing portraits and painting using an airbrush and was all around a very handy person. The family would like to express their thanks and sincere gratitude to the caring and devoted staff of the Palliative Care Unit of St. Boniface General Hospital for the compassion and loving care they provided through his last days. His family, friends and colleagues will long remember him for his love of good company, sense of humour and his love for Karaoke, Tim Horton's, Baseball and Boxing. Lamay will be held on Friday, September 18, and Saturday, September 19, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. till 11:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue.
