SOPHIE KATHERINE BOSAK It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sophie Bosak on September 13, 2009. She will be lovingly remembered by Joe, her loving husband of 64 years; her niece Barbara (Allan) Merkel of Tyndall, Man., their children Theresa Merkel (Mike), Philip (Cheryl) Merkel, and Erik (Melanie) Merkel and their families; niece Lucy Pyke of Acton, Ont., her children Samantha Ford (Kevin), Richard Pyke (Nancy) and their families, and nephew Kazimir (Helen) Bosak of Hamilton, Ont. Sophie was born on April 24, 1924 in Poland. When the war started, Sophie along with many others were taken to Germany to work in the labour camp where she met Joe. They struggled through hard times together and survived. When the war was over in 1945, Joe and Sophie got married on the June 4. At that time they immigrated to Canada. It was a difficult start for them but they once again managed to survive through hard work and perseverance. Sophie was a hard working and loyal wife to Joe. She had a lot of love to give and always had the ability to see the good in people. Faith was very important to Sophie. As years went by, she spent many hours taking on any work that needed to be done for her church. She was a proud member of Catholic Women's League. Sophie had a beautiful voice and loved to sing in the church choir to which she belonged for 60 years. She participated in any service that was given to the less fortunate. She was a great volunteer. Sophie had a lot of love to give, which she has proven to her family over the years. She was always there when help or advice was needed, and always had a hug or two ready. She loved the times spent with her family, especially with the young children. She encouraged them to always do their best and praised them for their accomplishments. Her family was very important to her as were her friends. Sophie continued her friendship with people that were her friends at the labour camp in Germany and who also immigrated to Canada. These people became her life time friends. As each passed away, Sophie grieved them and never forgot the memorable times they had together. Sophie will always be remembered for her kindness, loving nature and warm hugs. She was loved by many and will be sadly missed. The family gratefully thanks the staff of Selkirk General Hospital for their care and compassion. Special thanks go to Doctor Zoppa, Father Dado and Father McCloskey; also to palliative care and many caring friends who visited Sophie during her illness. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 18 at 10:30 a.m. at the Notre Dame Catholic Church in Selkirk, with interment to follow in the Notre Dame Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined. Should friends so desire, donations can be made in Sophie's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. WE WILL ALWAYS LOVE AND REMEMBER YOU CIOCIA Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
