CATHERINE MAUDE LE SAGE (nee CARTER) Peacefully, with her family at her side, on September 11, 2009 our mother passed away at the age of 86, in the comfort of her own room at Fred Douglas Lodge. She will be forever missed by her husband of 65 years Marcel, and her children, Larry (Sally), Margaret, Donna, and Shirley (Tim). Also left to remember her are her grandchildren, Patrick (Chantal), Jeffrey (Janice), and Jordan; great-grandchildren, Kaila, Alanna, Evan and Sebastian; her sister Margaret (Leo); sister-in-law Cecile; brother-in-law Pierre (Marie-Ange); and sister-in-law Therese, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents Archibald and Margaret Carter, brother Jim, sister Jessie and her husband Bob, daughter Winona, son-in-law Michel, and granddaughter Tammy. Also gone before her are many special people from her husband's family. Mom was born on January 29, 1923 at home on the farm near Rathwell on the coldest night of the winter. Perhaps that was the reason for her inner strength. Her own mother died when Catherine was only six a loss she deeply felt all of her life. Catherine married Marcel Le Sage on February 8, 1944. They lived in Winnipeg most of their married life. While Dad worked away on construction, Mom stayed at home raising us five children. Mom loved poetry and had the most amazing ability to quote her favourites at length. She was a firm believer in the restorative power of the afternoon nap. She was deeply rooted in her family's history, and treasured the memories and stories of four generations of family. Mom loved animals, particularly horses, birds, dogs, cats, and rabbits, and had a soft heart for all the wee critters (except moths). She was a packrat a great saver of all things, and a gardener, a happy grower of all things. Her creative abilities got into gear whenever a problem arose and the solution was not at hand. She was a true improviser. Mom had a favourite saying Ne'er sae muckle which meant It doesn't matter . Catherine's children would like to thank the good people of Homecare, like our Marzena, who made it possible for Dad to look after Mom at home for a time. When Dad's failing health made this no longer possible, Fred Douglas Lodge became Mom's home. To the wonderful people on Oak Unit who cared so well for Catherine the last years of her life, please know that we are so grateful to you. A small service for Mom will be held in the Chapel at Fred Douglas, 1275 Burrows Ave. at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 17. Mom will be interred at Woodlands Cemetery between Rathwell and Treherne. Arrangements entrusted to: KLASSEN FUNERAL HOME 1897 Henderson Hwy. 338-0331 Send expressions of sympathy at www.dignitymemorial.com/3752
