Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT (BOB) J. TRENCHARD Peacefully, surrounded by his family, Robert (Bob) J. Trenchard on September 14, 2009 at Victoria General Hospital at the age of 87. Bob leaves to mourn, Hazel, his wife of 58 years; Carol (Frank), Joan (Turc), Craig (Colleen), seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Bob was born in Gameland, Ontario in 1922. He was one of seven children born to Joseph and Dorothy. At the young age of 19, Bob volunteered to serve his country and enlisted with the Regina Rifles. He survived the D-Day landing only to later suffer a traumatic loss of a leg in Holland. Returning after the war, Bob met and married the love of his life Hazel Romans, while recuperating at Deer Lodge. The focus of Bob's life shifted to his career in the civil service, his family, and his many volunteer activities. Bob was a volunteer of his children's school activities and a dedicated boy scout leader. He was worshipful member of the Masons. Bob was extremely active throughout his life with the War Amps of Canada. One of Bob's favourite activities with the War Amps was the organization of the School Patrol programs appreciation lunches. Throughout his life, the guiding influences were church and family. Bob was dearly loved and will be sorely missed by everyone who came into his life. He is an inspiration to his children and grandchildren who he helped through the many facets of life. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of Victoria General Hospital. At Bob's request, cremation has taken place and a funeral service will be held at Meadowood United Church, 1111 Dakota Street, on Friday, September 18, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Interment of the cremated remains will take place at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens.
