RUBY EDNA SVEINSON October 30, 1926 September 15, 2009 It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She passed in the peacefulness of her own home, September 15, 2009. Mom is now with our dear father (Sigurdur). Mom was born October 30, 1926 at Matheson Island to Hugh and Katherine Monkman. Mom and Dad were married on October 24, 1945. They lived and raised their family at Granite Quarry, Riverton, Loon Straits and then Gimli. Mom was truly our family anchor. During her earlier years she worked hard beside Dad, with him in the fishing. She kept everyone well fed and as anyone that knew Mom knew she was a terrific cook and homemaker. Mom has always had a very strong influence on her children, as she was very steadfast with a true personality. She always kept everyone on an even keel. She had a heart of gold and those who knew her couldn't help but love her. She had such pride in all of her children and grandchildren. She truly cared about family and extended family, and friends dearly. Her home was always open for a visit, as she always had kind words and thoughts. Our dearest mother was a loving, kind, and caring person. She was a very special lady. We as her family were very fortunate to have her all these many years. She touched so many lives by being the wonderful person that she was. We as a family have many happy and beautiful memories to carry us through. Mom you will be sadly missed but always will have a special place in our hearts. We love you. It is very hard to let you go but we know you are happy now to be with Dad. He is smiling at you. Ruby was predeceased by her husband Sigurdur; son Sammy; grandson Sammy Duane; sisters, Phyllis Roche and Gladys Oddleifson; brothers Raymond, Eddie, Lyndsay and Tom Monkman. She leaves to mourn Margaret and Jack Jopp, and their family Brent (Sarah, Kaitlen), Camden (Dallas, Cami); Beverly and Halli Johnson, and their family Robin and Duane (Kyle), Candace and Jeff ( Dylan, Jori, Ella), Kim and Ross (Hailey), Blaine and Jen (Alexi, Mitchell); JoAnne and Bruce Johnson, and their family Amy and Clint (Sinjin, Angelica, Viggo, Rebecca), Jane and Donavan (Rocky), James; Clarence and Christine Sveinson and their family Crystal and Denis (Dorian), Einar and Heidi (Hugh, Erik), Sigurdur; Lawrence and Lisa Sveinson, and their family Cheyenne, Shania, Shaleigh and Shayne; Janice and Doug Dey and their family Tyler and Pam, Talia and Devon; brother Jack Monkman and numerous nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearers are her grandsons Brent, Camden, Blaine, Einar, James, Tyler and Sigurdur. In lieu of flowers if friends so wish may contribute to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in her memory. Memorial service will be held Saturday, September 19, 2009, in the Gimli Lutheran Church at 2:00 p.m. Dearest mother, we now have an Angel, above us. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements.
