DR. LAWRENCE CHEN-TSU LU The family of Dr. Lawrence Chen-Tsu Lu announces his passing on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at the age of 79 at his Winnipeg home. As a man of deep faith, Lawrence rejoices in God's embrace, joined eternally by his beloved wife Alice, who was called home last December. He is survived by his children John (Caroline Fletcher-Lu), Laureen (Sheldon Haas), and Paul (Jennifer Lu). In the last six years Lawrence's granddaughters Grace and Olivia (Paul and Jennifer) filled him with happiness and pride. Lawrence is survived also by his sister Josephine Lai (Andrew Lai). Born on December 21, 1929 in Anhui, China, Lawrence studied at Taipei University Medical School and was a surgeon in Taiwan before travelling to the United States in 1957 to intern at Grace Hospital in Detroit. He met his future wife Alice in California and on June 16, 1962 they married in Detroit. The couple then immigrated to Vancouver, BC where they started their family before settling in Winnipeg in 1967, where the family currently resides. Lawrence became a highly accomplished and respected pathologist at St. Boniface General Hospital in Winnipeg, where he served for 25 years before retiring. His retirement didn't last long as he returned to work at Concordia Hospital and Seven Oaks Hospital, both in Winnipeg. He also spent time in Sweden studying a medical technique long before it became widely used in current diagnostic procedures. His constant pursuit of knowledge was reflected in his hobbies as he was an avid reader of Chinese literature and the history of war. His favourite hobby was Tai Chi Chuan, which he practised and taught well past the age of 70. Lawrence was a man of great intellect, high morals, and was blessed with a caring, giving heart. He attended church, prayed, and meditated everyday. Lawrence loved God, his wife, and his family. Their interests always came before his own. Vigil will take place on Wednesday, September 23, 7:00 p.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Parish; 820 Cottonwood Rd., Winnipeg. The funeral will be held on Thursday, September 24, 11:00 a.m. at the same location, followed by a reception in the church basement. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada would honour Lawrence's memory. GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 982-7550
