ORVAL FAROUGH After a long life filled with love, happiness and productivity, Orval slipped away unexpectedly in his favourite chair at home on Wednesday, September 16, 2009. Orval was born December 11 ,1924 and lived with great zest for 84 years. He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary and daughter Valerie. Orval is survived by his second wife and closest friend, Celia, having just celebrated their 20th anniversary. He is also survived by son Gordon; brothers, Mel and Morley/Marlene; son-in-law Dennis Retzcuk; and stepson Michael Cropper and family. Orval served with the Royal Canadian Artillery from 1942 to l945. After he returned from the war, he worked for the British American / Gulf Oil Company until he retired in 1981. He was an avid golfer and was a member of Niakwa Country Club for 42 years. He enjoyed at least four rounds of golf each week and was known to golf his age (or close to it) as recently as a week ago. For six months each year, Orv and Celia would travel to their second home in Texas where, for 20 years, Orv would craft wooden toys to sell locally. Orval was a happy, generous and wonderful person and he will be fondly remembered by his many friends and relatives. He brought joy and happiness into our lives and we will hold his memory close to our hearts forever. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Orval may be made to a charity of your choice.
