ANNETTE BARLOW (nee COLLIOU) 1916 - 2009 With profound sorrow we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved sister and energetic aunt Annette. Born in St. Laurent, Manitoba on December 3, 1916, the oldest of eleven children, Annette passed away September 18, 2009. Beloved wife of the late Jeffery Barlow, Annette is predeceased by her mother Alphonsine (Mercier) Colliou in 1992, father Alexis in 1975, sisters, Alexina (Omer Rainville), Rose, Dorothée, Henriette (Victor Bertouille), brothers, Aimé (Anne Marie), Joseph (Stella), Edmund (Lorraine), Jean (Irene). Survived by sister Josée (Emile Rainville, deceased) and brother Louis (Lois, deceased). Cherishing her memory are sisters-in-law, Stella, Anne Marie, Irene, Lorraine, and many nieces and nephews. Annette took a genuine interest in everyone she met and she found great pleasure in spending time with family, following lives of her nieces and nephews as they grew up and started families of their own. Annette lived in Toronto for many years, while she was there she worked at Eaton's. When she and Jeff returned to Winnipeg she continued to work at Eaton's. Jeff passed on, she was lost and had to find some other kind of employment. Children's Aid had an opening, she took up typing and the rest is history. Tante Annette took every opportunity to enjoy time with her nieces and nephews, creating many wonderful memories for them to cherish. All of us have a something to remember her by. From a song like Les fraises et les framboises , to preparing a salad for supper but not knowing how to prepare the dressing. Her greatest joy was having time to nurture her many friendships. She approached things with a positive attitude and a keen sense of intelligence. St. Laurent always held a special place in her heart, and she took particular joy in attending and spending a lot of time at the lake (Laurentia Beach) at her cottage. When not puttering around her cottage she'd visit with nieces and nephews and she'd bring her joie de vivre . She enjoyed life to the fullest, she never did anything in half measures. Annette had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and spent numerous hours reading books. She was always there when help and advice were needed, and always had a hug or two ready. As a young girl she played the violin, later on in life she entertained us with her mouthorgan, accordion and organ. She was an avid baseball fan, she enjoyed spending time bird watching, swimming, and sailing, liked to play cards and crib. She also traveled to many, many places in Canada, the US, and in Cuba. She will be missed for her thoughtfulness, her intellect, and sharp wit, and the love she shared with her entire family. Tante Annette you left behind beautiful memories. You truly were one of kind. Thank-you to the staff of 2ABC, Taché Centre for their compassionate care during Aunt Annette's stay with them. Prayers will be said at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 DesMeurons Street. Funeral Service will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Laurent Church. Viewing will take place at 10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Death is a moment. Love is forever. DESJARDINS 233-4949 1-888-233-4949
