GEORGIA ROBINSON (nee SMITH) October 10, 1919 - September 17, 2009 It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Georgia Robinson on Thursday, September 17, 2009 at Extendicare Oakview Place at the age of 89 years. She was a dearly loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Georgia was born in Hamiota, Manitoba, the second daughter of John and Rose (Peggs) Smith. She was raised and lived in the McConnell and Hamiota area into her early adulthood. Following her mother's death, Georgia and her father moved to Rapid City, MB, where they owned and operated the town restaurant. It was there that she met her beloved husband, Harry Robinson, after his return to Canada due to injuries sustained during the Second World War. Georgia and Harry remained in Rapid City and worked as Post Master and Post Mistress for many years. In 1983 Georgia retired after 25 years with Canada Post and they moved to Winnipeg in order to be closer to family. Georgia is lovingly remembered by her only daughter, Denise Georgia and her husband Bob Holmes; beloved granddaughter Robyn and her husband Fraser Gordon; great-grandchildren Sara Rose and Evan Robert Gordon; brother-in-law Ken Creaser as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Harry in 1994, her parents and step-mother Bella Smith, sisters Lillian Morgan and Betty Hinds and their spouses, stepsister Doris Creaser and son-in-law Steve Ewasko in 1972, as well as Harry's siblings, Vivian and Don Black and Alton and Jean Robinson. The family wish to thank the management and staff at Metropolitan Kiwanis Courts and Home Care Staff, their help enabled Mom to be at home as long as possible. Also thanks to the staff at Oakview Place for their care during the short time she was with them. The Funeral will take place on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Crestview Fellowship Church, 271 Hamilton Avenue, Winnipeg MB, with Pastor Vern Knutson officiating. Private interment to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Metropolitan Kiwanis Courts or the Winnipeg Humane Society would be appreciated by the family.
