JOANNE MARIE KUNZ RN, BA, BN May 6, 1945 September 18, 2009 Peacefully on September 18, 2009, after a courageous battle with Ovarian Cancer, Joanne Kunz passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit, at the age of 64 years. Joanne was born in Gimli and grew up in Camp Morton. She was the daughter of the late Martin and Joanna Kunz. She will be lovingly remembered by her brother Bob (Carolyn) of Halifax, N.S., nephews Andrew (Michelle) and David of Calgary, Alberta, Timothy (Alexis), niece Bethany of Halifax, N.S. and grandniece Saje of B.C., also surviving are aunts, uncles and many cousins. Elementary school days were spent in Camp Morton, with graduation from St. Mary's Academy in Winnipeg. Joanne graduated from St. Boniface Hospital School of Nursing in 1966. After graduation she travelled with C.U.S.O. to South America to teach Nursing in Spanish. On her return from C.U.S.O. she worked with youth at Rossbrook House. She was involved early in the life of VON in Winnipeg. VON in Winnipeg had a program second to none in Canada and Joanne so enjoyed that community nursing. She loved her patients and her work. No matter where they lived or the circumstances they had to accept, Joanne looked forward to nursing them back to better health and safer surroundings. From VON Joanne went into the Home Care Program where she became a Home Care Coordinator, working until her retirement in 2006. Her quick smile and diligence in her ethic will always be remembered by her co-workers. Joanne graduated from the University of Winnipeg with her B.A. and later with her BN from the University of Manitoba. Art and traveling were very much in her retirement plans. Joanne loved art. She enjoyed using her potter's wheel at home to do different kinds of pottery. She enjoyed sculpturing with a wonderful production of Mother Theresa', three blind men being led by a child and others to numerous to mention. Her watercolour paintings with wonderful Manitoba skies were quite remarkable. She was starting to do some oil paintings before becoming too sick to continue. Joanne loved gardening, the birds in the hedge eating from the bird feeder and bathing in the bird bath brought her such joy, simple pleasures. Joanne was an Associate with the Sisters of the Holy Names and the House of Peace. She was very faith filled and loved her Church. Joanne always tried to do and say the right thing. She had many friends who cherished her friendship. She touched so many lives. Her little home was warm and inviting, everyone loved to be entertained there. Prior to Joanne becoming ill she spent a wonderful vacation with her aunt Bernie and uncle Len and cousins in Sea Sechelt, B.C. The scenery was spectacular and the relationships shared was a gift she so cherished.
