JOHN M. SOKOLUK August 19, 1932 - September 17, 2009 On Thursday, September 17, 2009 after a courageous but brief battle with cancer and with his loving family by his side, God took John in his arms and peacefully guided him home. Remaining to forever cherish John's memory are his loving wife of 39 years Nancy, daughters Virginia (Owen), Elaine (Grant), Nancy (Alex) and Christine (Mike); grandchildren Shane, Carter, Ashley and Shawna, great-granddaughter Talea, mother Effie, brother Gene (Regina), sisters Mary (Roy), Bessie (Vic) and Jackie (Jim), sisters-in-law Roma, Hope (Gabe) and Brenda (Chuck), as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Metro, brothers George, Henry and sister Alice. John was born in Parkerview, Saskatchewan. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces when he was 20 years old. He served for 33 years until he reached the maximum allowance for years of service and retired. Not one to sit still, he worked at Boeing for many more years until finally retiring. Those who were privileged to know John knew him to be a kind, caring, fun loving and generous man. He was a proud husband, father, and grandfather. He took every opportunity to enjoy time with his family and created many wonderful memories for them to cherish. He loved hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners at home where he would prepare his signature perogies and holubtsi. He loved watching sports and was a huge Saskatchewan Roughriders fan. John's funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Memories in Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street at Manitoba Avenue. A reception will follow in Wojcik's Reception Centre. Special thanks to the medical staff at Health Sciences Centre - GD2 ward.
