Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHARVEY NORMAN RAYBOULD 1918 2009 Peacefully on September 17, 2009 with much of his family at his side, our father and grandfather passed away at the age of 91 at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg. Harvey was born in Winnipeg, April 11, 1918 to Arthur and Mabel Raybould. He grew up on Inglewood St. in St. James. He had one brother, Noel, who predeceased him. He enlisted early on and served in the Canadian Air Force in the Second World War as a navigator. He married the love of his life, Eileen on June 26, 1943. After the war, he worked at Great West Life Assurance Co. in Winnipeg and Denver until his retirement in 1986. Harvey and Eileen raised their family in St. James. For five years before retirement, they enjoyed Denver and then returned to live in Charleswood on Woodfield Bay until finally moving to Vasa Lund Estates where they lived for eight years. He always tried to be well informed on current events and loved a good discussion. He leaves behind many friends. As a child, he studied violin at Toronto Conservatory of Music but gave it up while Eileen and Harvey raised their family. We all remember his violin stored under the bed for many years. In later years, the violin came to life again. He enjoyed playing with several groups such Mennonite Community and Manitoba Chamber Orchestras and his get-togethers with his many musical friends, especially Susan Gray and Susan Partridge. Harvey was a member of the Scottish Rite. He was also a very capable photographer and woodworker. He built the family cottage and boat at Jessica Lake in the Whiteshell. Harvey and Eileen spent many happy years at the lake with their children and grandchildren. They loved to travel and visit their son Brian in New Zealand and daughters Joan and Sharon in B.C. Survived by his beloved wife of many years, Eileen; five children and 11 grandchildren, Joan (Ron) Miller, Sheila (Gordon) Shawn, Linda (Larry) Krahn, Brian (Glenda) Raybould, and Sharon (Rene) Fontaine; grandchildren Chris (Joanne), Lisa (Curtis), Jason; Michael (Kristin), Jody; Jesse, Sara; Carl, Thomas; Claire, Daniel. The family would like to thank his many friends who supported him; from Vasa Lund Estates, Deer Lodge United Church and Charleswood United Church. Thanks to the caring staff at Grace Hospital. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Charleswood United Church with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Alzheimer's Society of Winnipeg.
