WILLIAM JOSEPH SPIKULA Peacefully on Tuesday evening, September 22, 2009 at the Riverview Health Centre, William Joseph Spikula passed away at the age of 86 years. William was born on February 22, 1923 to Fred and Catherine Spikula (nee Pagut) in Ternopil, Ukraine and immigrated to Winnipeg, at the age of six. They settled in the North End of Winnipeg. He started his working career as a Power Engineer in the North during the war at Port Radium mine where he met the love of his life, Mary Krawchuk. They moved to Winnipeg where he worked for a brief time with Dominion Bridge and Manitoba Bridge in steel fabrication. An opportunity arose with City Hydro (Winnipeg Hydro) and he commenced working through the classifications to obtain his First Class Power Engineers License and retiring as the Plant Superintendent at the Amy Street - Steam Generating Station. He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish many fond memories, his wife Mary of 57 years; sons, Donald (Nadia) of Dauphin and James (Darcy) of Winnipeg; grandchildren, Catherine (Kevin), Collin (Marabel), Laura, Stephen; step-grandchildren, Tammy, James and great-grandchild, Jaedin. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at Metropolitan Cathedral of Sts. Vladimir and Olga, 115 McGregor St., Winnipeg at 1:00 p.m. with interment to take place at All Saints Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Stephen Spikula, Colin Spikula, Danny Malofie, Terrance Small, Vladimir Krawchuk and Nick Molchan In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 109-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, R3E 0V9 Special thanks to the great staff at Riverview Health Centre on 3rd Floor East, especially Dr. St. Godard, and nurses Linda, Tony, Margaret, Alina, Lorraine and Karen for their compassionate and thoughtful care.
