DOUGLAS STRONG Anyone who met him knew his charm. Suddenly on September 19, 2009, in Winnipeg, Douglas Reginald Strong passed away. For 63 years, Doug was always up for a laugh and always worked to get a smile. Survived by his children, Mandy Andreson (Charles), Courtney Hammond (Trevor), and Kyle. Doug was also a loving grandfather to Maya and Elias Andreson and Ella Hammond. Originally from Hamilton Ontario, Doug graduated from Waterloo Lutheran University in 1969. Later that year he went on to become the first overall pick in the CFL draft. He spent six outstanding seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and always considered himself a Bomber for life . Doug found renewed meaning in recent weeks as a football coach and volunteer at Grant Park High School. Coach Doug couldn't wait to show up everyday - and the kids were thrilled to be working with the former pro athlete. This was another fantastic opportunity for Doug to touch lives and make an impact. I believe I met Doug in Hamilton, probably in 1962 and remember his days with Winnipeg. His father was my hockey coach at Inch Park. My recollection is that Doug was unable to attend the Double Blue hockey camp in Etobicoke and I went in his place, a wonderful experience. His father was a very nice man. - Posted by: Darrel Boles (Contemporary) on: Nov 16, 2019

I knew Doug from our high school days in Hamilton. Watched him play football for the Blue Bombers. I learned of Doug's passing just recently and was saddened. My thoughts and prayers, though belated, go out to Doug's family. - Posted by: Ken Laird (Friend) on: Sep 11, 2013
