WILLIAM (BILL) JOSEPH FERGUSON 1922 2009 Peacefully, on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at Riverview Health Centre William passed away at age 87. Left to cherish his memory are sons Allen (Wynn), Ian (Connie) and Brian (Janice); grandchildren Amy, Graham, Allison, Alanna, Brendan, Colin and James; sisters Shirley Nichol and Joyce Thorne along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Phyllis in 1988, and brother Stuart in 1999. Bill was born on September 12, 1922 in Winnipeg. Much of his young life was spent with his beloved grandmother in Lestock, Saskatchewan. During the Second World War, Bill served in France, Belgium and the Netherlands as an artillery radio operator. He was a member of the 17th field battery of the 15th Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery. In 1948, Bill married Phyllis Perkins. They settled in Winnipeg and raised three sons. He was employed by the Hudson's Bay Company, Weston Bakery, and in 1958, began a long career with Canada Post, retiring in 1986. An animal-lover, Bill was also a passionate five-pin bowler, golfer, and collector of stamps and coins. Bill's family thanks his many care-givers with WRHA Home Care Services, and Palliative Care Unit, and Riverview Health Centre. A celebration of Bill's life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg.
