DURO (GEORGE) DRAZIC March 31, 1931 - September 20, 2009 Duro (George) Drazic passed away peacefully at Victoria General Hospital on Sunday, September 20, 2009 at the age of 78. Survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Nevenka (Nellie) and daughters Grozdana (Nick) Srbljanin, Donna (Les) Fill and Liz (Boris) Gavrailoff. Duro was known and loved as Deda by his grandchildren: Doug, Georgette (Dan), George, Carrie-Lynn, Robert, Karla (Gary), Mike and George. Deda loved spoiling his great-grandchildren: Mya, Madison, Alexa, Nikolas and Jack . He will also be missed by Nicole, Ashley, Destiny and Lindsay. Duro is also survived by his brothers Milan (Dragica), Nikola (Petra) and sister Danica and sisters-in-law Anka and Draga, and numerous nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by his friends and the wonderful neighbors throughout his years. Predeceased by his parents Djuja and Petar, father and mother-in-law Bozica and Todor Blitva, nephew Milan, brothers-in-law Veljo, Vladimir, Ljubomir, Nebojsa, Dusan and Milos. Duro was born March 31, 1931 in Velika Greda, Serbia; he immigrated to Canada May 2, 1958 and made his home in Winnipeg. He started working in Canada as a shoemaker, then as a janitor at Allied Building Cleaning; which he proudly purchased in 1970 and changed the name to Oxford Building Cleaning. After retiring, Duro enjoyed his time at the cottage in the Whiteshell and later loved spending time with his much anticipated great-grandchildren. Deda loved to buy the little girls matching dresses and relished any opportunity to show them off. Deda was also very excited to have Nikolas Papa added to the great-grandchildren and was looking forward to meeting Jack. Deda enjoyed going to the casino whenever he could talk one of his grandsons into joining him, and could always count on his granddaughters to phone and visit. The family would like to extend appreciation and thanks to the doctors and staff at Victoria Hospital for their genuine care and compassion shown towards Duro. Prayers will be held on Sunday, September 27, 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1445 Main St. Funeral service will be on Monday September 28, 11:00 a.m. St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church, 580 Talbot Ave. Pallbearers will be Duro's grandsons. If friends and family so desire, donations may be sent in Duro's memory to St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church, 580 Talbot Ave. or Victoria General Hospital Foundation, 2340 Pembina Hwy.
