FREDERICK ROBERT HOWELL It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, Dad, grandfather, uncle and friend Frederick Robert Howell, 72, of Steinbach, Manitoba who passed away peacefully at the Steinbach Bethesda Hospital on September 29, 2009 surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife Sharon Flockton Prystenski Howell; and his sons, Terry (Monica), Les (Alenka), Russ (Tracey), Gary (Ivan) Howell; and stepsons, Lance (Sharon) and Dale (Nancy) Prystenski. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Meghan, Liz, Aliviah, Julie, Tommy, Samantha, Brett, Charnelle, Rhys, Jaydon, Madison; and his sister Pat; and brother Lyle. He was predeceased by his first wife Jean Howell. Fred was born and raised in Winnipeg and moved to Steinbach with his family in the late 1960s. As his sons grew, Dad volunteered in minor hockey as coach, referee, Little League and Bronco baseball as a coach, Cub Scouts and the local Kinsmen. He along with Brian Prystenski, Jimmy Johnstone and Leonard Penner were the founding fathers of the Steinbach Puckers Old Timers Hockey Club in the early 1970s. Fred retired from the Manitoba Telephone System in 1996 after 28 years of service. After retirement he spent many years of active involvement at the Steinbach Legion Branch #190. Dad enjoyed travelling and took many trips to the United States, Mexico and across Canada to see the sights and visit his sons, families and friends. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 2, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Drive, Steinbach, MB. Ash interment to follow at a later date. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at the St. Boniface General Hospital and the Steinbach Bethesda Hospital for the special care they provided Dad.
