Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCLARENCE SCHAEFER December 22, 1926 - October 4, 2009 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Clarence (Schaef) Schaefer on October 4, 2009 at the Concordia Hospital at the age of 82 years. Dad was predeceased by our mother Lorraine in 1986, brothers Alex, George, sisters Lena, Elsie, Vicky, Katie and Corainne. Clarence is survived by his son Greg, daughters Janice Rathbone (Colin), Lynne Morin (Colin), grand children Erin, Allison, Michael and Derek, sister Lorraine Hulmes of Calgary. Also mourning our loss is his companion Leah Colvin, nieces, nephews and his lifetime friends and neighbours. Clarence was born in Winnipeg, December 22, 1926. He grew up in the West end of Winnipeg. In 1949 he married Lorraine and they made their home in Elmwood. He worked for CP Rail for 42 years retiring in 1986 to care for his wife. Clarence and family moved to Transcona in 1965 where he became actively involved in the community, coaching baseball and hockey. During this time he made numerous lifetime friends. Dad was also a very active man and led a very busy life. He was a member of the Elmwood Legion and Canadian German Society. He played baseball in Kildonan Park with the Seniors league and was also a strong bowler. He enjoyed traveling and spending time at the casino. After his severe stroke in 2008 he was paralyzed but his strong will to live kept him going. All those that knew him will miss him. We would like to extend our thanks to all who helped care for our father over the past two years, especially those he became close to. A celebration of Clarence's life will be held on Thursday October 8,2009 in the Wheeler Funeral Chapel 211 Regent Avenue, West at 11:00 a.m. Lynda Trenholm officiating, Interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery.
