MARIA VAN HELDEN Peacefully on October 3, 2009, with her family by her side, Mom passed away at the Middlechurch Home at the age of 86. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 62 years, Harry, son Harry (Joanne) and daughter-in-law Lynn, grandchildren, Don, Mia, Michael, Monica, Karolyn, great-grandson Drake, and many relatives in Holland. Mom was predeceased by her son Karel in 2007. Mom was born on March 4, 1923, in Venlo, Holland where she met and married Dad. Soon after they had their first child Karel. In 1952 they left Holland to start a new life in Canada. They lived in The Pas, Manitoba, for the first year, where their second son, Harry, was born. The family then moved to Winnipeg to start the family business, Harry's Bakery . Mom worked hard taking care of her family and being Dad's partner in the bakery. In 1986 Mom and Dad retired to Vancouver Island where they enjoyed many good times with friends. In 2002 Mom and Dad returned to Winnipeg due to Mom's failing health. Above all, Mom was a loving wife, mother, and Oma who lived her life for her family. Special thanks to the Middlechurch Home for the care and compassion they have shown; to Marlene Van Helden for always being there for my parents; and to my father who has been by Mom's side throughout her illness. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, October 8, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church, 3597 Main Street, followed by a reception.
