ERNEST WILLIAM SMITH January 27, 1934 - October 5, 2009 Ernie passed away peacefully at the Deer Lodge Center on Monday, October 5, 2009 at the age of 75. Ernie was predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Marguerite and Brother Donald Smith. Surviving are his sister Peggy (Nick) Rostosky, son Russell (Janet) Smith, Grandchildren, Justin and Meghan Smith, Nephews, Kyle (Tammy) Rostosky (Milton, ON), Tobin (Tracy) Rostosky, Great-nephews, Zachary and Lucas Rostosky, and numerous family and friends. Ernie will be missed by his longtime friends Mel (Pat) Finlayson. In his early years Ernie worked for Mordue Brothers Funeral Home until 1971, when he decided a change was in order. He started employment with the Winnipeg Transit Company where he retired after 30 years of service. Ernie became a fulltime caregiver for his grandchildren who were the light of his life until his health declined which made it impossible for him to continue. He enjoyed his trips to Grand Forks with his family, and spending all special occasions and quality time with his sister Peggy and family. The family would like to thank the Staff of 4 West Deer Lodge Centre for their compassionate care to our Father and Grandfather. At Ernie's request a cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 8 at Neil Bardal Funeral Inc., 3030 Notre Dame Avenue across from Brookside Cemetery.
