DIANE DOERKSEN In the afternoon hours of Sunday, October 4, 2009, our beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Diane was predeceased by her father Marty Derksen and husband Peter Doerksen. She will be greatly missed by her mother Adeline Derksen; sisters, Marlene (Neil) Voth, Lorna (Allan) Dyck, Helen (Wes) Mark; brothers, Ron, Murray (Jessica) Derksen; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; and her long-time friends, Angela Ladyshewsky, Choudry and Mubarka Ahmed. Diane had a passion for learning and a deep love of books. She was intelligent, witty, and had a wry sense of humor. After high school, she did two years of pre-med and then decided to go into nursing. She worked for many years in the intensive care units at St. Boniface General Hospital and then went into geriatric nursing at Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home. She was a gifted speaker and spent many years with the International Toastmasters Club, a parliamentarian, did literacy work for the Transcona Literacy Center, and excelled in so many areas. She did wonderful knitting, sewing, embroidery, and stained glass. She loved her family and family was very important to her. The family wishes to thank the medical and nursing staff of Home Care, Health Sciences Center, Dr. Craig Hildahl, and so many others who were involved in her care over the years. Cremation has taken place and according to Diane's wishes a private memorial service will be held for immediate family members. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
