Abram was born August 17, 1933 in Tiegerweide, Ukraine to Heinrich and Maria (Guenther) Klassen. He was the youngest of four siblings and a twin brother to a sister who died 12 days after birth. Dad was predeceased by his wife, one son and one daughter, both in infancy; two sisters and one brother. Abram lived his early years in Ukraine, enduring the Second World War. After the war he met and later married Anna Sobetzky on October 10, 1954. They were blessed with eight children with two dying in infancy. In 1974 dad, together with his family, had the privilege to immigrate to Canada and settle in Winnipeg, where he took a job at DeFehr (later Palliser) Furniture. Dad had limited education and yet he was able to live life with dignity and enjoyment. He worked hard to provide for his family and did his best to instill Godly values to his children and grandchildren. His faith was tested and he found solace in God's Word. Dad and Opa is survived by two sons: Jake, John and Lenora (Elias, Sarah, Nigel, and Levi); and four daughters: Maria and Peter Wilms (Amanda, Randy and Lindsay, and Matthew and fiancé Katie Dutfield), Elena and P. Anthony Wiens (Steven and Victor), Ann and Martin Sawatzky (Melissa, Kevin and Julene, and Stephanie) and Katarina and Edward Garrecht (Pavel, Peter, and Jonathan). Abram is also survived by one brother Heinrich and Rosa Klassen, one sister-in-law Olga Klassen of Winnipeg, and one brother-in-law, Jakob Fransen of Germany. Viewing will be Friday, October 9, 2009 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Donwood Manor Chapel, 165 Donwood Drive, and at the church prior to the service. Funeral service will be held Saturday, October 10, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church, 1315 Gateway Road. Interment in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank the staff at Concordia Hospital at N1 for your wonderful care that dad received while staying there. If friends so desire, donations may be made to Kingdom Ventures Inc., available at the service.
