WILLIAM LAWRENCE PALK B.A., LLB, LLM (Manitoba), Q.C. Died in Winnipeg October 3, 2009 after a brief illness, in his 98th year. Bill was the eldest son of Lawrence and Janet Palk (née Andrews) devoted and beloved husband of Molly (née Eileen Marion Denison) during 69 happy years of marriage; dearest father of Shanly (Port Hope) and Alix Arnett (James, Toronto); beloved brother of Helen Riley (Hamilton). Predeceased by son Hugh, and brothers, Douglas and Edward. Loving grandfather to Shanly (Edward Morawski, Toronto), Tannis (Toronto), William (Amy Poehler, New York), and Charles (New York); and proud great-grandfather to Thomas and Frederick Morawski, and Archie Arnett. A graduate lawyer, Bill joined the T. Eaton Company in 1936, and held many executive positions over a span of 30 years. He served in the Canadian Army from 1940 - 1945 in Canada and Overseas. Upon retirement from Eaton's, Bill practised law with Pitblado Co. until 1983. Throughout his life Bill engaged his considerable energy, talents and resources in support of the many business, cultural, political, scientific, educational, social service and health organizations in the City of Winnipeg, in the Province of Manitoba and in Canada. Winnipeg's United Way and the YMCA were particularly dear to his heart. It was a proud moment in 1965 when Bill was awarded the office of Captain of the Hunt in Manitoba's Order of the Buffalo Hunt for his community leadership and many contributions to the rich fabric of life in Manitoba. He was grateful to the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, and the many wonderful health-workers involved in his care. A Service celebrating Bill's life is planned for 11:30 a.m., Saturday, October 24 at St. George's Anglican Church, 168 Wilton Street, Winnipeg. 843 Sherbrook Street, 774-7474 Condolences: www.bardal.ca
