CARRIE CAROLINE KENNEDY (nee SHEMANSKI) Peacefully, and surrounded by her family, Caroline Kennedy passed away at her home at Clearwater Lake, MB, on October 11, 2009 at the age of 73. Caroline will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 51 years, Jack. She was adored by her six children and 14 grand-children: daughters Joan, Maureen (Robin, children: Erica, Karine and Nicole), and Susan; sons Edward (Stella, children: Grace, Teresa, Simone, Daniel), Gerard (Jeanette, children: Theria, John-Julien), Donald (Marika, children: Katrina, Kristina, Monique, Jack, Robert). Caroline was cherished by her sisters, Florence (Gary Morrish), Gloria (Hubert Plante), Donna (Jack Madrigga), brother-in-law Fr. Edward Kennedy, sister-in-law Janet Kennedy, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, Helen (nee Krawec) and Steve Shemanski. Born in Dauphin, MB on September 28, 1936, Caroline's first language was Ukrainian. She was very proud of her Ukrainian heritage. She had an incredible work ethic and chose teaching as her profession, graduating from normal school in Winnipeg in 1955. Prior to marriage, Caroline taught elementary school in The Pas. While raising six children, Caroline completed her Bachelor of Education from University of Brandon, achieving top marks. Following graduation, she taught school in The Pas and Holy Cross School in St. Boniface. Her Catholic faith played a central role in her life. She was a life long member of the Catholic Women's League, choir member and catechism teacher. Her faith gave her great solace and comfort throughout her life and during her courageous battle with cancer. Caroline was a remarkable woman. She was a very joyous, creative, curious and positive person. Caroline loved nature, music, literature, poetry, and dance. She had a passion for interior design, decorating, gardening and loved flowers. The beauty and serenity of her home at Clearwater Lake gave her much joy. In addition to her many talents, Caroline was a very modest, caring and generous person. All those who were fortunate to know and love her, will forever be blessed by her life, a true gift from God. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother; and was attentive to each in a way that made them feel very special. Caroline greatly valued her friends, especially her ladies luncheon group. The family thanks Dr. Gary Harding and nurse Cindy at Cancer Care Manitoba, Dr. Michael Pinder in The Pas, home care nurses Judy and Val, and the nursing staff at St. Anthony's General Hospital in The Pas. A special thank you to nurses Simone Atkins and Bunny Fiji for their excellent care, support and kindness. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at Sacred Heart Cathedral in The Pas at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral mass will take place on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cathedral. Hemauer Funeral Home is in care of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to either the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society in memory of Caroline.
