NORBERT GUERTIN July 23, 1915 - October 11, 2009 Following a lengthy stay at Oakview Place, Norb passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2009 at the age of 94. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Pearl and his daughter, Joyce Rand (Brian). He leaves his children: Norbert Jr. (Wilma); Richard; and Patricia Main (Ted); grandchildren: Diane Rand (Scott Shimkus); David Rand (Rachel) and Celeste Main and great-grandchildren: Tyler, Amber, Jeremy and Jessica. Norb was born in St. Charles, the third child and eldest son in a family of six. Norb spoke French exclusively until he was five years old. Following graduation from St. Boniface College where he excelled in business courses, he began his career working for his uncle Ernest Guertin, owner of Western Paint. After a brief stint in the Navy, Norb and his brother Antoine co-founded Guertin Brother's Paint in 1947. Norb was president of the company until his retirement in 1976. Always a caring and gentle person, Norb's generosity and sound guidance won him the love and respect of family and friends alike. Pop had a wonderful sense of humour and a quick wit which didn't diminish with age. He was affectionately known as C.O.D. Call on Dad . We will miss you dearly Pop. Sincere thanks to Oakview Place for their outstanding compassion and care. In keeping with Norb's wishes cremation has taken place and a private ceremony will be held at a later date. A celebration of Norbert's life will be held on Friday, October 16 between the hours of 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Winnipeg Winter Club, 200 River Ave. Should friends so desire, memorial donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
