Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHOWARD DAVID JOHNSTONE With great sadness, we announce the passing of Howard D. Johnstone, on October 12, 2009, at the age of 89 years. Howard was predeceased by his parents, David and Fanny Johnstone of Mont Nebo, Saskatchewan; brothers Cliff, Jim, Riley, Charlie; and sisters Grace, Mona and Winnifred. He is survived by his wife Ruth; children Wes, David (Darlene), Rob, Karen (Corey Bergen), and Gail (Ted Dyck); grandchildren Jennifer (Mike Anderson), Meaghan, Elizabeth, Devon, Krystle and Daniel Johnstone, Stephen, Melissa, and Michelle Dyck, Josiah, Jamie and Jai-Lynn Bergen; great-grandchildren Sydney and Gabrielle. He is also survived by sisters Joyce (Kraft) and Effie (Thornton). After serving in the military in the Second World War, Howard pursued theological training and was a minister in several churches of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada and of the United Church of Canada, in both British Columbia and Manitoba. He is fondly remembered for his zest for life, and especially for organizing family picnics when he never failed to ensure there was lots of fried chicken. Concerned family members watched it go cold as he enthusiastically prayed and gave thanks. Many thanks to the management and staff of Faith Lane at the River East Personal Care Home who took such great care of him over the past three years. Friends are welcome to join the family in celebrating Howard's life during a Visitation 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 16, 2009 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg. A reception will be held during Visitation. Funeral service 9:30 a.m. Saturday, October 17, 2009 at Calvary Temple, 400 Hargrave Street,Winnipeg.
