LORNE DRAPER November 2, 1946 - October 14, 2009 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, uncle and friend, Lorne, who lost his battle with cancer on October 14, 2009. Lorne's courage and refusal to give up was an inspiration to many. Left to cherish his memory are, his brother Gordon (Cynthia), sister Beth McLeod (Bob), sister-in-law Doreen Draper and his nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his father Percy, mother Ella and brother, Fred. Lorne was born and raised in Oak Bank. His working career first took him to the mines in Thompson and then onto many remote Northern communities. On his way to these remote communities, he passed through Yellowknife and felt that some day he would love to live there. In 1990 he settled in Yellowknife, eventually working for the Federal Government in the Public Works Dept. In Yellowknife, Lorne made many wonderful friends who shared his love of hunting, fishing and the outdoors. Lorne was very grateful to his friends, some of them often travelling many miles to Oak Bank to support him during his illness. In keeping with Lorne's wishes, cremation has taken place and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Sunnyside Cemetery, Heatherdale Road, 2 miles west of Oak Bank. A special thank you to Dr. Jeff Wiebe, Dr. Chaykowski and Dr. Lyn, his Healthcare workers, First Responders and staff of Concordia Hospital for all their care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave. Room ON1160 Winnipeg MB R3E 0V9.
