J. RICHARD SMITH It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Richard Smith on October 11, 2009. Born June 11, 1934, Richard was a life long resident of St. Vital. Left to cherish his life are his loving wife Karen (nee Cleugh), children: Kerri (Wayne) Lipischak, Doug (Donna), Brian, Sharon Golin; grandchildren: Kyle and Wesley Lipischak; Kaitlyn and John Smith; Tyler, Ryan, and Jennifer Smith; Stephanie, Conrad and Warren Golin; great-granddaughter Lydia; his sisters, Margaret (Bart) Jenner; Jacquie (Bill) Cumming of Calgary; father-in-law Peter Cleugh; mother-in-law Dorothy Cleugh; sister-in-law Barb (Bob) Blyth of Calgary; Dianne Ormiston; Joan (Ken) Jarvie; brothers-in-law Dave Cleugh of Edmonton; Warren Cleugh; many nieces and nephews and extended family members. Richard was predeceased by his parents John and Rose Smith; nephew Randy Jenner and great-great niece Tarynn Jenner. Dick, as he was known at work, enjoyed a 37 year career at MTS. Although he has said this was going to be a stepping stone, he says he stayed because they kept giving him new and challenging jobs to do. Retired in 1991, he enjoyed 18 years doing the things he loved most, restoring his old cars and trucks, his gardening, and his stamp collection. He was a member of the Manitoba Classic and Antique Auto Club, the Model A Club and the Tailgate Association. He enjoyed swap meets, club events and social gatherings associated with each one. His garden kept him busy every summer enjoying the fresh harvest. A celebration of Richard's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 19, Winnipeg Evangelical Free Church, 500 Lagimodiere Blvd. Interment has taken place in the family plot at St. Vital Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to the Special Olympics Manitoba or St. Boniface Hospital and Research Foundation. The family would like to thank Dr. J.D. Peterson, Dr. Hugh Taylor, the staff of 7A West, 5A South, and Emergency at St. Boniface Hospital, for their excellent care over the years. Forever gone but Never forgotten We Love you.
