Date of Passing: Oct 13, 2009
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN DOUGLAS GRIFFITH Peacefully on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 surrounded by his family, Doug Griffith aged 85 years, of Stonewall, passed away at Concordia Hospital in Winnipeg. Doug was born July 18, 1924 in Neepawa, MB to Bill and Hazel Griffith. He was the second eldest and the only son, having five sisters, Margaret, Jean, Bernice, Joyce, and Joan. Dad was raised on the farm between Arden and Keyes, MB. As a young boy Dad enjoyed working on the farm, sharing in his father's love of horses. He served overseas during the Second World War and was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Dad married the love of his life, Jean Watson on June 28, 1952. Together they shared 57 years and raised six children on the family farm in Stonewall, MB. Doug was a Jack-of-All trades who experienced many different fields of employment. His main career was as a heavy equipment operator with Transport Canada for over 25 years. His true passion, however, was for farming, which he enjoyed until recent years. Dad was a consummate story teller, a life long learner and a professional practical joker whose quick wit stayed sharp over time. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his loving wife Jean; his children and their families, Beverly (Rene Patterson), Richard (Pennie), Robyn (Kelly), Timothy (Charlene), Bonnie (Tom Dziedzic); daughter-in-law Rosemary (Kendall); Kevin Elliot (Wilma) who he considered his fifth son. He was predeceased by his son Daniel also by sisters, Margaret Milne, Jean Hunter, Bernice Smith; brothers-in-law, Stuart Milne, Peter Hunter, Wib Smith, Lionel Welbourne, Doug Kitson, George Watson, and sister-in-law Muriel. The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of the Stonewall Ambulance, Stonewall Hospital, St. Boniface and Concordia ICU who cared for Dad this past week and especially those involved in his care over the last several years. In keeping with Doug's wishes cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held, Saturday October 17, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall. Should friends so desire memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, the Heart Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
