MARY ELENA MCBEAN, A.R.C.T. August 17, 1913 - October 14, 2009 It is with sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing of Mary McBean on Wednesday, October 14, with her loved ones by her side. Yet, while we grieve the loss of our wonderful Mother and Nana, we are also profoundly grateful for having had her in our lives for so long, for she truly graced us all with her loving and gentle presence. Our mother always had a kind word for everyone, and she was known for her beautiful smile, her sparkling blue eyes and her warm heart. Hers was a rich and full life filled with love and laughter and, above all, music. An accomplished pianist, Mary earned her A.R.C.T. (Solo Performer) from the Royal Conservatory of Music, University of Toronto, in 1962. Later, she went on to study the organ as she broadened her knowledge of classical and religious music. Most of all, however, Mary just loved to play, and she willingly shared her gift with her students, friends, family and church. She served as the organist at St. Vital United Church for many years, and contributed music for Thomson Funeral Home as well. Mary was also an entertainer who, along with her group of close friends, the Vitalizers, entertained throughout the city and province. She was a remarkable and truly special woman. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Victor; her brothers, Charles and Gordon Parker; her sisters, Olga McLeod and Helen Douglas; her parents, Anna and Haldor Parker; and many relatives and friends. She is survived by her loving children, son Gregory and daughter-in-law Evelyn, and her daughter Anne and son-in-law Terrance; grandchildren Ian, Gillian and Darren; along with sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the wonderful A2 staff at Middlechurch Home, who looked after us all while they made our mother's last days there as comfortable as possible. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in Mary's honour can be made to the Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg. The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date. we love you - vi elskum ig
