IRIS VINCENT (nee MASON) On Monday, October 12, 2009; Iris died at the Heritage Lodge Personal Care Home at the age of 81 years. Remaining to forever cherish Iris' memory are her husband of almost 62 years Ken; daughter Rebecca (Pat); sons, Paul (Hilary) and David (Deborah); grandchildren, Cam, Cal, Nigel (Heather), Cole, Kristen and Luke; great grandchild Jaeden; her sisters, Pat Colborne and Marg Duff; numerous nieces and nephews and their families (in Canada and the United States), and many friends. She was predeceased by her mother and father, her daughter Betsy, her sister Marge Ahlbaum and brothers-in-law, Lloyd Colborne, Rev. Don Duff and Marvin Ahlbaum. Iris was born in Winnipeg on May 15, 1928. Growing up through the depression years was not easy but helped to make her the strong, vibrant, intelligent and loving woman, mother and grandmother we have all been blessed to know and have loved so much. Iris was an active member of the United Church for over 70 years. Her contributions to the church included teaching Sunday school, helping with church camps, participating in choirs and serving as choir director, and being a member of many church committees including Winnipeg Presbytery. Iris also worked at a Montessori school for preschool children in Winnipeg and at Heritage Lodge and Holiday Haven personal care homes. In her 50s, Iris, a lifelong learner, acquired her Diploma in Theology. She then worked first at Charleswood United, followed by Deer Lodge United and, lastly, at Sturgeon Creek United, retiring when she was well into her golden' years. Iris was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend who was always available to any family, relative, friend, or church member who needed her time, care, comfort, and support. There was no limit to her compassion and love. We are lucky to have many warm, gentle, positive memories of Iris and will carry those in our hearts forever. Iris had many health issues during her life and her approach to dealing with them was gracious and positive. Her most recent health challenge was certainly her most difficult. Special thanks go out to the staff of Heritage Lodge PCH and Dr. Ian Maharaj for the care and comfort provided to Iris during her remaining time with us. It was an honour to know and love Iris and to be able to call her mom / grandma - and for Ken to be married to such a wonderful person for so many years. She was truly a gift to us all. Iris' funeral service will be held on Monday, October 19, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in the Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Drive, with Rev. Bill Corkum, presider. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined; however, those interested may make a donation to the charity of their choice in Iris' name.

  • I miss you so much not a day goes by that I do not think about you. I miss our chats on the phone. I miss hearing your voice and our visits. I will not forget when I was a child you choose me to come up at Christmas service at church to put Jesus in the manager. At the time I did not know how much it ment to me more then it does now. It's unfortunate it took me this long in my adult years to find and know God through a near to death experience where I briefly saw Jesus. I truly wish I knew God as Much as I do now something I would have loved to have bonded and chat with you about. I wish you could have met my beautiful little 5 year old son Dakota he would have loved to have met you. You have a beautiful heart and a special soul such a beautiful, strong, loving, Godly women truly a child of God that will never be forgotten for your kindness and love for all you servered in the Lords name thank you. How blessed I feel that I got to call and have you as my Grandma here on earth . You will always be in my heart. Every day I feel God saying how much he loves you and I truly know he really does.
