SUSAN J. DAWSON (nee CMIKIEWICZ) Susan J. Dawson passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 3, 2009 after a long battle with cancer. She was surrounded by family and friends. Susan was born in 1959 on Prince Edward Island in Canada and spent her childhood in a variety of places throughout Canada and Europe. She learned to speak French, German and Icelandic and graduated as a computer software programmer with an additional degree in marketing. In 1985, she moved to California and soon after married Ken. They settled in Pleasanton where Susan dedicated her life to raising her family and helping the local community. She was full of life and love and was the true embodiment of grace. Susan has made lasting friendships wherever she has lived and touched the lives of thousands through her involvement in local sports, school spirit and large charity projects. Susan is survived by her husband Ken, daughter Michelle, son Trevor, mother Moyra Benediktson, father Tom Cmikiewicz, grandmother Rose Cmikiewicz, sister Connie and brother-in-law Bert Vanderhart (niece Tessa, nephew Jesse), brothers Bruce and Jeff, parents-in-law Wilma and John Dawson, brother and sister-in-law Steve and Veronica Dawson (niece Tiana, nephews Chad and Christopher), sister-in-law Cindy Dawson, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins and, of course, her little dog Spencer. The family would like to sincerely thank everyone for their help and support throughout the difficult times and especially those that helped with Susan's care and made her final days more peaceful - the Nightingales of Pleasanton. A memorial service to celebrate Susan's life was held on Friday, October 9, 2009 in Pleasanton, CA. This service was taped and will be played on Sunday, October 18, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Minerva Hall, on Minerva Road at PTH 8 southwest of Gimli. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation or CancerCare Manitoba.
