Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNJALL GISLASON January 29, 1920 - October 14, 2009 Peacefully on October 14, 2009 at the Arborg Personal Care Home, Njall Gislason passed away at the age of 89 years. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Kristine, of 61 years; sons, Alfred (Joy), Miles (Donna); daughters, Elma (Steve, deceased), Birdeen (Lawrence); grandchildren, Nadine (Wes), Bryan (Lisa), Janice (Richard), David (Karen), Ian (Cindy), Lyle (Lisa), Shawn (Jenna), Lauren, Brent and Alyssa; great-grandchildren, Hailey, Harlan, Miranda, Adriana and Max. Also survived by sisters, Gudny, Toby; and sisters-in-law, Emily, Maria, Beatrice, Vera (Bert). Predeceased by his parents, brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and son-in-law Steve. Njall was born and raised in Framnes, MB along with four brothers and four sisters. He achieved a grade eight education at Vestri School. At 21 years of age, he was called to serve in the Canadian Armed Forces. During his five years of service, he journeyed to numerous parts of the world. On April 3, 1948, he married Kristine Kristinnson. They raised their four children in the family home that Kristine still resides in today. Family was very important to him and he looked forward to the Sunday afternoon coffee visits with them. Njall operated a mixed farm operation with his son, Alfred. When he retired from farming, he began his second career in carpentry. Throughout the area, you can find many items of his craftsmanship. He enjoyed meeting new people as he worked on many projects. Njall was very well read and liked to be aware of world affairs. It was very important to him to keep an active mind and kept himself busy with crossword puzzles, jumbles, playing cards, reading the daily paper and watching his favourite Toronto Blue Jays . The family would like to thank the Arborg Personal Care Home staff for the wonderful care that was given to him. Even though his stay at the Arborg Personal Care Home was short, he enjoyed his time there. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 20 at 2:00 p.m. in the Ardal - Geysir Lutheran Church, Arborg, MB. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Arborg Personal Care Home or Ardal - Geysir Lutheran Church. Arborg (MacKenzie) Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
