Date of Passing: Mar 25, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELEN GUNDRUM (nee CRUIKSHANK) Peacefully on Friday, October 16, 2009 at the Health Sciences Centre, Helen Gundrum passed away. Helen is survived by her son Donald and his wife Karen. She will be sadly missed by grandson David and his wife Audrey and great-grandsons, Dallas, Tyler and Tanner, granddaughter Dianna Wiens and husband Arlen Wiens and great-granddaughter Kaelyn and grandson Derek. Helen was predeceased by her loving husband Bill; son Barry; sisters, Mic and Mary; and brothers, Ken and Jim. She leaves behind sister-in-law Gladys Cruikshank and many nieces and nephews. Mom was a big part in the lives of Jane (Karen's sister) and her daughters, Carina and Wendy and their families. Nell, as her family and friends knew her, was born November 6, 1913 in Ottawa and after moving to Winnipeg grew up in Elmwood. She met Bill, her husband at Wilsons Stationery and they were later married. Mom and Dad moved to West Kildonan in 1948 where they raised their family and enjoyed many years together with their close friends in West Kildonan. Mom attended West Kildonan United Church and was a part of the ladies group until her passing. Mom worked at Eatons grill room and later at Eatons mail order and she never understood how Eatons could go out of business and tear the building down for an arena. Helen was an extremely kind and generous person. She put everyone ahead of herself. With family and friends she would never miss a celebration. She made gingerbread houses for the childrens' birthdays and baked her famous buns for all occasions. Until the age of 90, without a complaint, mom was not afraid to walk to the Bay just to get treats for her grandchildren and the roast for Sunday dinner. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of her life and she was eagerly awaiting the birth of another great-grandchild this November. Many thanks to a special friend Ella Card who watched over mom the past two years at Lions Place. Mom and dad enjoyed their vacations at the Craigies at Ingolf, Ontario and with the Thorogoods at Gull Lake. They also enjoyed winter vacations in Hawaii in retirement. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 22 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler @ Henderson Hwy. In lieu of flowers, our mother would appreciate donations be made to the Siloam Mission in Winnipeg. A MOTHER'S LOVE IS FOREVER
